Dell Computers refuses to supply
to Blind Charity

your bank did not authorize the payment

The Gambia, 20 November 2009 -

At the beginning of August I was informed by our UK office of a possibility of around £ 1000 sponsorship money for a project for the Blind.

Having just carried out a project with one of the Special Needs Teacher to use a Laptop fitted with the Dolphin Guide Software, which was quite successful when there was electricity.

The monthly Computer Magazine had an advert from Dell for their inspiron netbooks with a 6 cell battery which would last around 8 hours between charges.

Now with that specification would be the ideal solution, and as I had a friend who was coming to the Gambia, Tuesday the 1 September now was the ideal time to try the Netbook.

So I order 1 from Dell online .
email received on August 11, with order acknowledged.
And “Welcome to Dell Simon”on the 16 August, followed by
“Unfortunately, we could not process your order because your bank did not authorize the payment “
Our office in the UK tried to contact Dell UK, and I send the following email to the Customer Service Department on August 27

Dear Sir or Madam
I am the founder of Nonvision.org. we are helping the blind and visually impaired with computer lessons by using the Dolphin Guide Software.

We would like to order 5 (Five) Inspiron Mini 10v with 6(Six) cell batteries and windows XP. The order is for delivery in the UK

as this is for charity can You give us a special prize. we can pay with credit card or with direct bank transfer from our bank account in the UK

At present we are doing trial with a normal Laptop but the teachers find it a problem with finding a electric socket within the classrooms, hence we want the 6 cell batteries which would also help in the rural areas without electricity.

If the trial are successful we hope to expand the sceme to all the special needs teachers in the Gambia.
I am also the founder of Kingfisher Trust and if you would like some background information about me or the work we do than I suggest have a look at www.kingfisher.gm or www.nonvision.org

Unfortunately, we could not process your order because your bank did not authorize the payment.
It’s not unusual for this to happen, so to help you place a new order we have listed below the most common reasons for a payment not to be authorized:
The name and address you gave us for delivery is different to the name and address printed on your credit/debit card statement
The card details may not have been entered correctly; it could be the Card Number (the long number on the front side of your card), the Expiry Date or the Card Security Code*

The credit card company confirmed the request from Dell and
confirmed even the amount which they had authorised

21 oct 2009 The Credit card company
paid out for 5 netbooks from “LENOVO”

I think DELL co.uk or Dell.com or any other name they trade under to stop lying, and stop puting the blame the Bank or Credit Card Company.

It is difficult enough to raise money for charity, but to be treated like they did to us, it also put our project month behind. I would be interested to hear from other people. You can reach me on
